Van Diemen RF05 SCCA

Van Diemen's RF05 SCCA was adapted for the Sports Car Club of America's new 'sealed-spec' Formula E, introduced in 2006. Based on the spaceframed version of Van Diemen's 'world car' chassis, the RF05 SCCA represents the state of the art in spaceframe single-seaters Van Diemen UK, the world's largest competition car maker by volume.

The cars are powered by a race-tuned version of the 2.3-litre Ford Duratec/Mazda MZR motor which is also specified for IMSA's Lites 3 division. MZR variants also power cars in Formula Atlantic and the American Le Mans Series' BKMotorsports prototypes.

Optional sports racer bodywork from SCCA Enterprises converts the RF05 to a fully legal IMSA Lites 3 car for international events. QuickShift Racing can assemble or support your Formula E or IMSA Lites programme.

Specifications

Dimensions: 1250 lbs. with driver. 102.5in. wheelbase, 58.5in. front track, 55in. rear track.

2.3 litre twin-cam, 16-valve in-line four-cylinder engine with alloy block and head. Electronic fuel ignition by MBE. Power: 170bhp @ 5,800 RPM, Torque: 170 ft/lbs @ 4700 RPM.

Sequential 5-speed gearbox by Elite Transmissions.

Pushrod-activated suspension operating on wide-based, oval-section tubular wishbones with the latest anti-intrusion bar requirements. Alloy casting, heat treated uprights with large diameter angular contact bearings. Adjustable front and rear anti-sway bars.

Fibreglass and aluminum bodywork over a brazed, multi-tubular steel spaceframe. Composite high-nose with full-width aluminum front wing, with adjustable winglets. Rear-wheel flip-ups. F3-style adjustable aluminum rear wing with twin upper-elements and gearbox-mounted lower element. Flat-bottom (no ground effect).

Lightweight, 4-piston AP calipers on 10-1/2" diameter discs all around. Cockpit-adjustable front/rear brake bias.

OZ Racing aluminum alloy wheels, 8 x 13 in front, 10 x 13 in rear.

Hoosier R45A compound slick tires, 21.5 x 8.0 x 13.0 in front, 22.0 in x 10.0 in x 13.0 in rear. Hoosier Wet Compound tires (21.5 x 7.5 x 13.0 F, 22.0 in x 9.0 in x 13.0  R) are also available.

Other: detachable steering wheel; Van Diemen rack and pinion steering unit; 8-lb. dry-cell battery; 2.5kg onboard fire system; six point safety harness; 7-gallon kevlar fuel bladder mounted amidships; twin high-efficiency aluminum radiators with low drag coefficients housed singularly in each side pod.
